Cosmetic Surgery on Tap

Their is a plethora of cosmetic surgeries available for someone who wants to change the way they look, and on TV shows like Extreme Makeover, I Want a Famous Face and Nip Tuck are the commercials for the different surgeries. Personally I'm for reconstructive surgery or surgery to change the way some one looks but isn't it a bit unethical and mainstreaming such serious surgeries. Shows like these glorify the surgeries and disconnect the viewers from the serious after effects and pain associated with having their face ripped off and put back on with a few fixes. They also don't reveal the truth to the viewers about the clients that go over board with the surgeries or become addicted to cosmetic surgery.

Not all cosmetic surgery shows lead to negative results of long lasting effects on the patient. Swan for instance can very well have the addictive effect as the other shows tend to but because The Swan is taking a person that is considered ugly by most people and making them what they always wanted to be, attractive. Not only does The Swan give the patients the plastic surgery they desire they also show them how to continue to keep up with their appearances without further cosmetic surgeries. Therefore once the desired effect is reached these people tend to be more content with the results then say a celebrity constantly trying to stay young or a model one upping her competition. When the patient returns repeatedly to get more and more enhancements and seem to never be happy with the results someone or organization needs to step in to stop the disfigurement of the patient.

There's only so many times anyone can go under the knife to have any one part of their body changed before there's nothing left of the real person or accidental disfigurement happens. After they receive these multiple changes to there faces and of course something horrible is bond to happen when the patient is faker then they are real they need to be directed to a Psychiatrist instead of a plastic surgeon. Like with all things, moderation is the key but with surgery the risks and rewards need to be weighed for each appointment and a committee needs to be in place to stop some of these people from destroying their own bodies and ultimately minds .

Reality TV, Not Reality

Most people acknowledge that reality TV has been around longer then given credit for in 1998 during the writers strike when in actuality MTV is responsible for today's "reality" TV with the "Real World". For those that can remember the first 2 seasons of the real world the show was pretty boring most of the times and left you thinking while it was on "is this it". The "Real World" was innovative at the time by putting conflicting personalities in the same house, hoping they would argue and fight to give the viewers non stop conflict with a bit of emotion thrown in there. By the end of the 2nd season the directors and editor for MTV realized the footage they had wasn't as good as they wanted or could have been because of out side stimuli. To fix this problem and bring about more fighting and arguing they stripped the houses the roommates lived in of TV's, cell phones, computers, and gaming systems but brought in more alcohol and personalities that where the farthest from compatible then ever before. The result was the most emotional season of MTV run reality show to date. The Hispanic HIV positive gay Pedro and the constant verbal battles with the free spirited Soap Box Racer dirt ball Puck turned the whole season into a battle between the two to see who would get thrown off the show. The show had been secretly credited with causing undue stress on Pedro who died a short while after, whether that is true or not it could be possible with all the fighting and conflict going on around the roommates.

The way that MTV ran the "Real World" they directed "Jersey Shore", but what could be better for them then having 1 or 2 combative people on cast but to have 7-8 people on cast willing to fight. italy-not-so-keen-on-jersey-shore Now that you have your combative cast go ahead and throw in alcohol and take away any out side stimuli and *poof* there is a receipt for disaster. The same is true about every other "reality" flavor of the month, take away stimulus, add conflicting personalities and there is a season to watch. Its sort of the same thing as when your driving down the road and you see a car accident, you cant help but look and see the carnage. Not that the viewers are cold blooded in any way but it's easier to see other's in trouble than to deal with our own issues. Better by comparison seems to be the level of quality in citizens of our country, this is true by the constant tabloid pokes at reality stars. If they are reality stars then why don't they act like real people? The environment is such that it is nothing left but to get the desired effect and reactions to raise the all mighty ratings, despite the long term effects on viewers.

If video games and scripted TV cause violence in the viewers then "Jersey Shore" and "The Real World" is responsible for alcoholism and Douche baggery in our country.

Revolution in Gaming

The title of the blog maybe a tad bit misleading but allow me to explain. The definition of revolution is "the forcible overthrown of a social order for a new" and in gaming refers to what people call the act of playing video games. With that out of the way allow me to explain how gaming has changed the media around us and how much more beneficial they can be for our society as a whole. The popularity of video games has steadily grown since the induction of Atari in the 72 and moved from a small group of dedicated fans to everyday  gamers. When geeks and their video games has taken a foot hold in mass media it maybe time to take into consideration the further benefits entertainment as a tool.

Web posting such as  business-games encourage gaming in the workplace to help workers improve production and morale. It is obvious that gaming has benefits beyond just a relaxing past time and may very well be a key to bridge a gap between management and the workers. When workers are happier they want to come to work, want to help the company, and have a dedicated demeanor to their employers. If employers do utilize gaming in the workplace then they will have a leg up on their competition in the market for loyal employees.

The gaming industry has been trying to climb in the educational field but so far with only mediocre results so far. The educational gaming industry is trying to make head way with connections to colleges around the country and developing new games to encourage younger players to think about the games as entertainment and not learning. In the near future its only inevitable that one or more of the major gaming companies will capitalize on the entertain to educate idea.

Games aren't just for geeks in their parents basement no more and appeal to a large part of our population. To bring gaming into the workplace and schools very well maybe the next step in gaming development. When big businesses realize video gaming can have a positive impact on workers, they will reap the rewards of morally happy employees and maybe even other rewards. Furthermore if the school boards would take a chance with entertainment as education and video games as the medium then education would again become a priority for the children and not just what they have to do or as some see it "a chore".
